Accelerated Progress Planned for Police Adjustment Process

Kathmandu: Stakeholders have engaged in discussions to expedite the police personnel adjustment process as soon as possible. The matter was deliberated upon at a meeting held at Singhadurbar in Kathmandu, attended by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Home Affairs Narayan Kaji Shrestha, along with internal affairs ministers from various provinces.

Narayan Prasad Bhattarai, spokesperson at the Ministry of Home Affairs, revealed that the meeting focused on enhancing collaboration and cooperation between the federal Ministry for Home Affairs and the concerned security-related provincial ministries. To strengthen law and order in the country, the meeting decided to promptly update the Police Adjustment Act and the Nepal Police and Provincial Police (Operation, Supervision, and Coordination) and expedite the formulation of the Nepal Police Act and Local Administration Act, crucial for maintaining law and order.

The decisions taken at the meeting will be presented to the National Coordination Council, chaired by Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal 'Prachanda,' on January 31, as per Bhattarai's information.

Ganga Narayan Shrestha, Minister for Internal Affairs and Law of Bagmati Province, expressed dissatisfaction with the prolonged police personnel adjustment process, despite the issuance of Acts related to police adjustment and operation, supervision, and coordination among provincial police organizations in 2073 BS. Minister Shrestha, however, expressed confidence that the forthcoming meeting of the Council would finalize the adjustment process.
